Empowering women with in-depth knowledge and providing effective treatments for overall well-being are the focus of the Beverly Hills Women’s Center. Our certified obstetrician and gynecologist, Dr. Kashanchi provides the latest treatments to all patients. He serves as a clinical professor in the OB/GYN department of the University of Southern California, School of Medicine (USC), and has pioneered advanced techniques for Vaginal Rejuvenation and Laser Labial Reduction (labiaplasty) in Los Angeles.

Anatomy of the Reproductive Tract

The female reproductive organs are classified as either external or internal. The internal organs provide for ovulation, egg transport, implantation, development and birth of the fetus. The external organs and the vagina are for copulation. The latter has never been widely researched.

Vulva or external genitalia:

Consists of the mons pubis, labia majora, labia minora, clitoris, hymen, vestibule and gland.

Mons Pubis:

The fat-filled cushion that lies over the anterior surface of the symphysis.

Labia Majora:

These are two rounded folds of adipose tissue that are covered with skin and extend downward and backward from the mons pubic. After repeated childbearing, the labia majora become less prominent, and in older women begin to shrivel. Their structure is 6 to 8 cm in lenght, 1-inch in width, and 1 to 2 cm in thickness, and is tapered at the lower extremities.

Labia Minora:

Two flat reddish folds of tissue visible when the labia majora are separated. It is a thick fold of tissue that is moist and reddish in appearance. There are no hair follicles in the labia minora, but there are many sebaceous follicles; a few sweat glands. (These structures are supplied with a variety of nerve endings and are very sensitive.) The labia minora vary greatly in size and shape. They usually are not visible in women who had no childbirth, whereas in multiparous women (women with previous childbirth) it is common for labia minora to project beyond the labia majora.

Clitoris:

The clitoris is the homologue of the penis in women and is located near the superior of the vulva. This erectile organ projects downward between the branched labia minora. The clitoris made of a body (corpus), a gland, and two crura. Rarely the clitoris exceeds 1-inch in length, even in state of erection. The gland, which rarely exceeds l/8th of an inch in diameter, is richly supplied with nerve endings, The clitoris is the principal erogenous organ of women.

Vaginal opening and Hymen:

The vaginal opening varies considerably in size and shape. In virginal women is hidden by labia minora and covered with hymen ring. Some women become more irritated and fear mycosis of the enlarged labia, secondary to exposure of the extra tissue to the underwear or pantyhose. Many women prefer to have the shape of their labia more visually pleasant for their partner.

Procedures

These abnormalities can be fixed by a minor procedure, which cause labia reduction.

Location of Procedure: This procedure is done in a physician’s office or ambulatory (in-and out) surgical facility or in a hospital.

This type of surgery may be safely performed under local, regional, or general anesthesia, but either or both may be used. The choice depends on many factors that you will be able to discuss before surgery. The operation is relatively a minor one.

The time required to complete the procedure is short. (30-40 minutes)

Despite skillful surgery, sometimes the plastic surgical repair causes some scar or adhesion, and may need to be repeated. Usually this 2nd procedure, if necessary, is much shorter and recovery is faster.

After Surgery
What to expect after surgery

You will experience some discomfort when physician injects a local anesthesia into the area (if you choose to have it done under local); otherwise. you will not feel any pain if you choose to go under general anesthesia. Following surgery, you should not feel any significant pain or discomfort. But a slight pain can easily be taken away by either using some local anesthetic spray or painkiller (as prescribed by your doctor).

Activity:

Stay active as your condition and state of well being permits.

Diet:

There are no specific restrictions.

Pain:

If you have pain, heat or ice helps. Place a cold pack or heating pad over the surgical area. Hot baths or sitz baths with Betadine aid muscle relaxation and relieve discomfort Sit in a tub of hot water (100 – 112 F) for 8-10 minutes. Repeat 2-3 times daily.

Medication:

You may need no medication. If you do, carefully follow the instructions. For the ancient Greeks and Romans, the nude human body was a familiar sight. The participants of the original Olympic games were nude. The sense of joy at the sight of the nude human body is also of relative, recent origin. in recent years, the advance of sex and research has been changed almost everyday. Our knowledge about human sexuality increases. Thanks to the scientific information into the human sexual organs, now it can be shared by a great number of people than ever before. Most men and women today know more about anatomy and physiology than any ancient doctors. Oral intercourse has been widely practiced in our culture. This is hardly surprising since it can be quite satisfying for both men and women, and also a natural way of contraception.

Conditions
Cunnilintgus:

A woman’s external sex organ and surrounding area represent the most sensitive erogenous zones of her body. They are easily stimulated by regular strokes of the hand or kisses, thus a man may greatly arouse a woman by licking the inside of her thighs. He can further heighten her pleasure by kissing and licking and sucking the lips of her vulva and the shaft of clitoris. Indeed, with some practice, he may very well bring her to orgasm this way.

Sometimes when the man cannot get an erection, he may be glad to discover that prolonged oral stimulation alone often leaves a woman completely satisfied. It has been suggested that a man should not lick a woman’s sex organ in the last stages of pregnancy because air blown into the vagina may cause serious damage to woman and fetus. This danger may be somewhat exaggerated.

The anatomy of the external genitals of women are affected by many factors including race, family genetics, the use of some medication during pregnancy by their mothers, manual stimulation of the labia, the presence of small amounts of male hormones in the system, or increased production of androgen hormones by their ovaries.

Some women experience pain during intercourse since the enlarged labia gets into the way of intercourse.
